There is one primary reason to rent this house: spectacular views.
At high tide the water is licking at the granite slabs below the deck. At low tide you have a rocky Maine beach.
Many houses farther up the bay will be near mudflats (and their associated smells).
Most houses sit back from the water and you get a sliver of a view of the ocean. Bar Harbor View Cottage has a 180-190 degree view. All of Mount Desert Island can be seen from the deck.
Older vacationers will enjoy sitting on the deck and “managing the tide.”
Youngsters will want to go look in the tide pools, create a sauna by digging out the sand caught in the rock crevice, and then letting the salt water be warmed.
Adventure seekers will want to take the kayaks out for a paddle and cross the Western Bay to see the seals.
At night you can see the Milky Way laid out in all its glory and watch the headlights blink on and off as they worm their way down Cadillac Mountain’s switchbacks.
